Our Catering Journey
Chef Brian Appiano was born and raised in the Bay Area, but never left the Central Coast after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He started his creative cooking while feeding the brothers of Phi Kappa Psi while in college and used those skills to capture the love of his life, Krystal. His passion is creating things from scratch, and using his own unique recipes to make every dining experience memorable for every customer. Brian has made a name for himself as a chef on the Central Coast and the couple now owns 2 Rib Line restaurants: one in San Luis Obispo and one in Grover Beach. The family also own the nature experience and culinary delight, Sunsets at Pismo, as well as The Switch in San Luis Obispo that offers delicious food, excellent wine and engaging events. They love spending time with their 3 children all over our beautiful Central Coast. Winning several local food competitions, being featured on Man vs. Food Nation, and placing 1st in the World Food Championship in Las Vegas, the Rib Line’s reputation for great food is only getting stronger. “I love having restaurants on the Central Coast because I love where we live! In SLO we have our regulars that come in and share stories with us and in Grover Beach we get a lot of the tourists that visit us every time they visit Pismo or the Oceano Dunes.
I started making house-made sauces for Vito’s Pizzeria up in the Bay Area back in high school and continued along the Italian food path while attending Cal Poly for my economics degree with a concentration in marketing. From tossing and cooking wood-fired pizzas for the original Cuginni’s to making pasta for Upper Crust, I just loved the kitchen and creating flavors. I re-opened the original Rib Line on LOVR about 8 years ago, tweaked old recipes, upgraded the products and focused on quality. Since opening, we have won first place in 23 out of 28 food cook-offs from here to Orlando, Florida competing in chili, bacon, mac n cheese, and oysters with our most proud award being at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada for People’s Choice Chili. We were asked to cook for the ESPY’s Celebrity Pre-Party in Beverly Hills which has led to more high-profile events such as the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles.” -Chef Brian Appiano

"At the time of this review, our wedding is 4 months past. The number 1 thing people tell us they loved about our wedding? Rib Line! Anyone who has tried the food knows how good it is, so I won't hash out a recognized truth. But, I will say that anyone considering them for catering can rest easy, knowing that their service is just as exceptional as their menu. Rib Line catered our wedding, preparing unique appetizers for about 130 people, as well as the main BBQ buffet. They also handled the set up and tear down of all the dishes, tables, etc. Throughout the entire processes, they were professional and attentive.
